Information about the Haute Route Chamonix-Zermatt ski mountaineering excursion
The Dolomiti SkiRock Mountain Guides, during the spring season, lead groups of mountaineers to discover the amazing Haute Route Chamonix-Zermatt.
In order to undertake this demanding excursion it is required to be physically fit and trained and to have good ski mountaineering skills (BSA). The average daily elevation gain of the excursion is 850-900 metres.
Ski mountaineering excursion on the Haute Route Chamonix-Zermatt Programme:
Day 1
Meeting point in the afternoon at Chamonix Argentier, at the Grands Montets cableway, to check the equipment and get ready for the excursion. Dinner and overnight stay in B&B.
Day 2
Meeting at the Grands Montets cableway, from where the excursion starts. Descent to the Argentier basin and ascent to Col du Chardonnet and to Fenetre de Saleina, then traverse of the Cab. du Trient.
Day 3
From Cab. du Trient, descent to Campex and bus ride to Orsieres and Verbier. Taking the cableway, we reach Les Attles and traverse skiing the Cab. de Monfort.
Day 4
From Cab. du Monfort we pass Col Chaux and de Monin and ascend to Rosablanche, and finally descend to Cab. de Prafleuri.
Day 5
Ascent to Col de Roux and descent to Barma on the Dix lake, from where we ascend to Pas du Chat and then reach the Cab. de Dix.
Day 6
We head towards Col de la Serpentine and then ascend to Pigne d'Arolla, the highest point of the itinerary (3790 metres), from where we descend to Cab. des Vignettes.
Day 7
Ascent to Col de l'Eveque and descent to Glacier d'Arolla. Ascent to Col du M. Brulè and then ascent to Passo di Valpelline. At the foot of the north face of Monte Cervino we head towards Schonbielhutte and then to the town of Zermatt. Return trip to Chamonix by train or bus.
This itinerary is just one of thenumerous possibilities given by the Haute Route Chamonix-Zermatt and can be modified depending on the glaciers, snow and weather conditions.
