Information on the snowshoes excursion to the Rocchetta di Prendera in the Dolomites
This pleasant snowshoe excursion to the top of the Rocchetta di Prendera in the Dolomites starts from Malga Federa, which is open also in winter and can be reached by snowmobile in 25 minutes.
From the lodge we follow the trail taking to Croda da Lago for about 30 minutes; then we turn to the left following a trail in the woods reaching an open meadow with no trees and a small hunter's cabin, called Codesciarenei.
Then we climb, taking a southern direction towards the Becco di Mezzodi'; when we reach 1990 m. we leave the forest, getting to a wide and beautiful plateau gently leading to the Rocchetta di Prendera.
On the summit we get view of the powerful north face of Monte Pelmo, the second highest peak in the Dolomites (3143 m). From the top of the Rocchetta di Prendera we enjoy a precious view of the Ampezzo Valley and surrounding mountains.
The descent on snowshoes follows mostly the uphill trail but we can pick other fun routes leading us back to Malga Federa.
