Ferrata Berti to Croda Marcora

A long, demanding but amazing and wild climbing itinerary on the sheer cliff face of Croda Marcora (in the Sorapiss massif), which is the highest rock face of the whole Dolomites range.

This challenging itinerary links Cortina d'Ampezzo to San Vito di Cadore. It goes along a ledge called Cengia del Banco, which crosses the vertical rock face approximately in the middle, below the hanging glacier of Croda Marcora, and passes extremely steep slopes. The equipped path continues to reach the bivuoac Slataper and, from there, the path becomes an ordinary, quite long trail surrounded by a beautiful landscape, from where it is easy to spot steinbocks, chamois and marmots.

This itinenary is suitable for expert, well-trained hikers, who have good knowledge of the dolomitic terrain.

Information about the Via Ferrata Berti

The via ferrata is equipped with steel cable and ladders and does not present any technically demanding pitches. The path passes a vertical part of the huge rock face and leads to a sort of natural terrace where the Bivacco Slataper is located, from where you will enjoy a wonderful view of the Dolomites.

The long descending path towards San Vito di Cadore follows the trail n° 456, which leads firstly to the mountain pass Forcella Grande and then to the mountain hut Rifugio San Marco, which offers facilities and excellent traditional food.

The itinerary starting point is the mountain hut Rifugio Capanna Tondi, which is reachable by taking the shuttle Jeep or the Faloria cable car.

The time required to complete the ascent of the Via Ferrata Berti is two hours, while the overall duration time of the excursion is approximately six or seven hours.

The Via Ferrata Berti can be combined with the trail Sentiero Minazio and the Via Ferrata Vandelli to form a single excursion: the complete tour of the Sorapiss massif, which is one of the most amazing and unforgettable adventures that mountaineers can experience on the Dolomites.
