Information on the ski mountaineering excursion to the Cristallino
Generally, the ski mountaineering excursion to the Cristallino d'Ampezzo is tackled starting from Rio Gere, where you can take the chairlift to Son Forca.
The ski mountaineering route starts following the chairlift in Staunies, reaching the station's middle stop, then veering to the left along the large and deep valley leading to the Great Fork at 2870 meters.
Wearing crampons, we start climbing the rocky ridge along the Via Ferrata Ivano Dibona, passing over rocky, snowy and icy sections, vertical ladders and the famous breathtaking suspended bridge at an altitude of 3,000 meters.
When we reach the lift’s top station, it is worth climbing a few meters more to the Lorenzi Hut (closed), to admire a fantastic and unique panorama spanning 360 degrees over the Dolomites.
We descend along the steep and deep Staunies valley, dropping straight down to Son Forca, then continuing along the ski run reaching Rio Gere.
